The Role of Learning Outcomes in Designing the Advanced Database Topics Course in Higher Education

This paper describes and justify the process of designing a curriculum unit of Advanced Database Topics for masters’ students in informatics engineering, data engineering branch. The aim is to create a curriculum that integrates contemporary pedagogical approaches and is aligned with the demands of job market, to prepare students with skills that fill existing gaps, mainly in software development. The structured of essential components, educational objectives and select criteria considered when preparing the curriculum are explained. The best approaches to effectively integrate relevant content into the university curriculum, aiming to train software development professionals with skills and adaptable to market to the evolving, due to the increase of data generated in computing systems, are presented.
